About Us

The Art Ministry aims to involve members of our local community in affordable, accessible and inclusive

creative activities to provide opportunities for increasing social interaction, boosting self confidence

and improving self esteem, to help maintain or improve their mental health and wellbeing.

Our weekly creative sessions are open to all, but focus on people most likely to benefit,

such as children and adults with learning difficulties, physical disabilities, visual impairments and/or

mental health issues. Most of these sessions are delivered in our base in Hadleigh, Essex.

We extend our engagement with the community by working in partnership with other charities, schools,

social housing schemes and local government across south east Essex.

For these partners we provide creative activities for children during school holidays, after school clubs,

block and weekly sessions at sheltered housing schemes, and one-off sessions for other groups and charities, such as Trustlinks, Southend Macular Support Group, Southend in Sight,

Southend on Sea Rape Crisis and WI’s.

We engage an even wider audience in creative activities at an average of 10 community events each year,

such as the Hadleigh Community Summer Fayre and the Benfleet Community Fayre.

The Art Ministry was founded in 1992 and became a charity in 2004,

and registered with the Charity Commission in 2005.

We are governed by a board of Trustees according to our declaration of trust.

The following year we registered with the Charity Commission, our registered number is 1108227.

The charitable object of The Art Ministry is:

To advance the education of the public in the subject of art in all its aspects

in such ways as the Trustees shall from time to time determine.

Currently, the Trustees have determined the following areas of focus:

To provide a safe environment and facilities in a wide variety of art and craft activities for all the community and to encourage social creativity as a means of improving mental health and wellbeing.

To bring widely disparate members of the community together through the common language of art,

with a bias to the minorities, excluded and disaffected groups or individuals.

Click here see our details at The Charity Commission website.

“The Art Ministry is superb because

it's fun and you're like a little family.

It makes me feel good.

I was shy, but I've come out of my shell.”

John

“I love coming to The Art Ministry.

We make so many different things and

I have made lots of new friends.”

Linzi

"A few years ago, I was a bit depressed,

I asked if I could come along

and I've been coming ever since.

I find it really nice,

the social interaction

I enjoy The Art Ministry because

and painted, I do it when I come here." Dale

“The Art Ministry is a lovely place

to escape for two hours and

lose yourself creatively with people wanting to do similarly.

Surrounded by all different supplies

It brings me joy to see everyone leaving with something they have made and are proud of.”
